How To Make Dairy Free Cinnamon Roll Frosting

  • Posted: 3/8/22

I think we can all agree that a cinnamon roll just isn’t complete until it’s topped with a layer of delicious icing. It’s what truly takes cinnamon rolls from “tasty treat” to “decadent heaven”. And if you’re wondering how to make cinnamon roll icing, then you’re in the right place!

Most cinnamon roll icing recipes are pretty simple using some combination of milk, cream cheese, and powdered sugar. But what if you’re avoiding dairy for health purposes? Luckily, it’s pretty easy to make cinnamon roll icing without cream cheese or milk and never even notice a difference!

Dairy Free Cinnamon Roll Icing

When it comes to cinnamon rolls, you basically have two options: buttercream frosting or cream cheese frosting. Which one you go with is entirely up to you. Buttercream is a classic sweet, creamy option that’s good on just about anything. Cream cheese frosting is a bit tangier, which can be a nice complement to the sweetness of the cinnamon rolls. Whichever option you prefer, you’ll find a delicious recipe waiting for you below.

Vegan Buttercream Frosting

Buttercream frosting is probably the simplest option to choose and always a crowd pleaser. For the vegan option, you’ll simply combine vegan butter, powdered sugar, dairy-free milk, and a bit of vanilla and whip until it’s light and fluffy.

Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting

Cream cheese frosting isn’t much more complicated, it just requires a few more ingredients. Here, you’ll be combining vegan butter and cream cheese with a bit of lemon juice and vanilla before mixing in the powdered sugar. Whip until light and fluffy and you’re good to go!

The best part of both of these frosting recipes is they’re easy to customize! There are so many ways to make them your own. One of our favorites is to add a scoop of Earth Echo superfood powder to both add flavor and nourishing superfoods to the frosting.

  • Add a couple tablespoons of Cacao Bliss for a rich, chocolatey frosting.
  • Add a tablespoon of Chai Bliss for a spicy frosting twist.
  • Add a tablespoon of Golden Superfood Bliss for a beautiful, soothing golden frosting.
  • Add a couple scoops of Collagen Peptides to add a healthy dose of protein to the frosting.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to customizing these frosting recipes. Whether you add in a superfood powder, a different flavor extract, or a sprinkle of chopped chocolate, feel free to get creative!
