Serve-up Something Savory and Sweet for Thanksgiving!

I’m sure you have seen a lot of recipes about making pies for Thanksgiving. We have lots of pie and tart recipes here, too, including our new Apple Rose Frangipane Tart.

We even have information and recipes for Turkey Basics, The Best Ever Mashed Potatoes, Basic Stuffing, Make Ahead Dinner Rolls,, and more!

But what about Thanksgiving side dishes and leftovers? I always have trouble with deciding what to do. What goes with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy? What can I add to the classics or make different side dishes this year? What should I bring to someone’s house that’s different? It’s always a quandary. What can I make with left-overs?

We have been working hard to create a wide variety of savory and sweet recipes for you for the big Thanksgiving day, and beyond:

Why not have fun and do something different this year? We "just baked" Sweet Spiced Pumpkin Empanadas! They can be served as a side dish with dinner or as a dessert with ice cream, drizzled with Dulce de Leche Sauce or Fudge Sauce. You can buy either sauces ready-made.

Or choose our recipe to bake another incredible side dish - our Cheddar, Cabbage, and Apple Lattice Tart!  This one has a unique combination of cabbage, Granny Smith apples, combined together with a savory cheddar cheese. (It can also make a great Thanksgiving left-over recipe - just add in shredded cooked turkey to the filling, and you have an entire meal.)

And everyone will rave about the
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Squash, Apples and Candied Walnuts! Our recipe is sure to please most everyone at your table this year.

For dessert, I like to turn up the volume and offer all sorts of desserts, besides Pumpkin and Apple Pie. I have included my Cookie Butter Filled Star Loaf as the center attraction. It can also be made filled with Nutella. Sometimes I have served it with the Thanksgiving meal just to offer something different and sweet to go with a savory meal.

We always have Thanksgiving left-overs in my house. We like to make Savory Filled Buns - They're made from soft, slightly sweet dough that can be filled with all sorts of savory recipes. We have presented two variations: cooked BBQ pork or cooked chicken or turkey and gravy.

Another favorite in my house is the Savory Quiche Tart with a Whole Wheat and Cheese Crust. Quiche is made from a combination of eggs, liquid and cheese baked in a pastry shell. As long as you cook the vegetable or meat fillings before adding them to the recipe, you can fill your quiches with just about any combination of vegetables, or chopped and cooked chicken, cooked shrimp or ham; they're a great way to use up leftovers.
